Meeting Betrayal Trauma:  What You Need to Know

Betrayal trauma profoundly impacts clients' emotional regulation, attachment security, and relational trust—yet many therapists feel unprepared to navigate its complexities. This training equips mental health professionals with a trauma-informed, ethically sound framework for assessing and treating betrayal trauma in both individual and couples therapy. Participants will explore common trauma responses, therapeutic techniques for stabilization and healing, and the role of discernment counseling when clients face relationship uncertainty. Through case studies and practical application, attendees will gain actionable strategies to help clients move from crisis to clarity. This session is ideal for therapists seeking to expand their clinical competence in betrayal trauma recovery.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1) Identify and assess the core symptoms and relational dynamics of betrayal trauma to accurately conceptualize cases and develop appropriate treatment plans.

2) Demonstrate at least three evidence-based therapeutic interventions to help clients process betrayal, regulate emotions, and work toward personal or relational healing.

3) Apply ethical decision-making frameworks to effectively navigate boundary-setting, therapist neutrality, and dual-client considerations while maintaining professional ethical standards.
