Breaking the Chains: Unlocking the Power of Therapeutic Modalities in Addiction Treatment
Breaking the Chains: Unlocking the Power of Therapeutic Modalities in Addiction Treatment is an engaging and interactive training designed to enhance clinicians’ understanding and application of evidence-based approaches for treating substance use disorders (SUDs). This session explores the complex nature of addiction, emphasizing the role of trauma and the need for trauma-informed care. Participants will examine the cyclical relationship between trauma and addiction, review DSM-5 criteria for SUDs, and challenge common myths that hinder effective treatment.
The training highlights three core therapeutic modalities: Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), Group Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Attendees will gain insight into the benefits and limitations of MAT, including methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone, while also addressing stigma surrounding these treatments. The session will delve into various group therapy models and their role in fostering recovery, equipping clinicians with skills to facilitate meaningful group sessions. Additionally, participants will explore the core principles of ACT, learning techniques such as cognitive defusion, values clarification, and committed action to help patients manage cravings and regulate emotions effectively.

Through case studies, interactive discussions, and hands-on exercises, participants will develop comprehensive treatment plans that integrate these approaches. The training emphasizes real-world application, ensuring that attendees leave with actionable strategies to improve patient outcomes.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the impact of trauma on addiction and apply trauma-informed care principles.
2. Explain the effectiveness of MAT and address common misconceptions.
3. Utilize group therapy techniques to foster recovery and peer support.
4. Apply ACT strategies to enhance emotional regulation and commitment to change.
This session is ideal for clinicians, counselors, and healthcare professionals dedicated to improving addiction treatment.
