Throughout this workshop we will be diving into topics that will challenge you to evaluate your own skill sets and values, how you are connecting the dots for potential employers, and how to choose a role that will support you in your long-term career goals. Some of the questions that will be discussed are: What parts of my story am I wishing to tell and why? How am I balancing "transparency" in the interview process? Why do I want to work for this organization? Is their mission one I'm willing to sacrifice for? How do I know? What am I bringing to the table? How am I compensating for underdeveloped skills? How do I know if an organization's culture is a good fit for my long-term success?

Substance Use Disorder - The Hidden Diagnosis

The prevalence of substance use disorder is rampant in this country. From glasses of wine to unwind, gummy‘s to go to sleep or opiates to manage pain, we are a society that is hooked on substances. In the latest 2022 study, 168.7 million people or almost 60% of the U.S. population reported some form of substance use. Yet many therapists have minimal to no training about how to treat substance use disorders (SUD). Whether you are in private practice or work at an agency or anything in between, you are probably unknowingly treating individuals who are using substances. In this workshop, Gabrielle Loomis-Annett, a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor will assist clinicians with practical tools to address SUD in their day to day counseling. Together we will explore the spectrum of SUD from mild to severe as well as corresponding interventions and approaches to treatment. After this workshop, you will 1) understand how to protect yourself from the liabilities associated with Substance Use Disorder; 2) develop the proper assessments for your practice or position; 3) learn practical language and approaches to addressing SUD with your clients and 4) gather helpful resources for necessary referrals.

Befriending Therapist Parts: Experiential IFS As Burnout Prevention

Befriending Therapist Parts: Experiential IFS As Burnout Prevention

This presentation experientially explores the compassionate model of Internal Family Systems (IFS) which validates the real reasons why therapists become burnt out and outlines common therapist parts. This presentation will explore how helping professionals can use their connection to Self for the resourcing needed in the face of challenging clients. By befriending our therapist parts, rather than fighting them, we can show our protective systems and past wounds the appreciation they deserve for survival. The result is more compassion and energy to be with those we serve and return to our own sense of purpose and creative passion for the work we do. Learning Objectives: (1) Participants will be able to identify the qualities of Self Energy and qualities of protective parts that protect. (2) Participants will have a working understanding of how curiosity and compassion leads to less internal conflict. (3) Participants will have an understanding of common therapist parts and how to attend to them.

"Moment of happiness" for clinicians

"Moment of happiness" is the term I use for self-care. Finding this moment is different for everyone. Using it is essential and vital for clinician's own well-being so we can take care of and treat our clients. In this workshop, we will go over self-care strategies, interventions, and practice some interventions so we can find what works for us and that we can use when we need it. Let's not wait to find our moment when we are in crisis or burned out, let's find it and use it now while we are still enjoying what we do and have the space to take care of ourselves. 1. Learn research of stages of burnout and impact on clinicians 2. Learn and practice ways of self-care and finding our "moment of happiness" 3. Explore ways to navigate compassion fatigue and second-hand trauma in the work we do.

How to Manage These Potentially Treatment-Interfering Obstacles: Social Media, Nutrition/Diet, and Our Ethics

Therapists are not necessarily taught to manage these potential treatment-interfering obstacles. Yet, often, social media can add stumbling blocks to even stellar treatment plans. Nutrition/diet can activate or amplify symptoms that "look like" mental health symptoms. And our ethics: When simply obeyed and not incorporated with clinical thoughtfulness, these can taint even an otherwise excellent therapeutic alliance. Start automatically uncovering and managing these hidden obstacles in your practices. Following this presentation, participants will be able to: 1. Describe “problematic” social media use. 2. List three symptoms that can look like mental health diagnostic criteria but may come directly from nutrition-related practices. 3. Identify at least one way to apply clinical reasoning while adhering to ethics codes.

Holding Space, Active Listening and Attunement

Many clinicians are trained to focus on symptoms and behaviors, but little attention is given to the power of deeply attuning to our clients. In this sacred space of attuned connection, we can better understand our clients and help them connect to the deeper traumas, beliefs and experiences that underlie their ineffective behaviors. In this workshop we’ll learn how to help clients access their inner-wisdom and heal from multiple layers of unresolved trauma, spiritual disconnection, and the toxicity of shame. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1) Describe two strategies useful with holding space. 2) Give an example of the results that come from deep attunement 3) Explain the difference between active listening and ordinary listening
